Kate has regular performances throughout Northern California, including San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, Top of the Mark, the Chapel, Doc's Lab, the Independent, Yoshi’s, Boom Boom Room, Elbo Room, Hotel St. Francis, Berkeley’s Claremont Resort, the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay and wineries in Napa and Sonoma.
Kate currently plays with a variety of bands: Gringa, Brazilian Duo with Diogo Sabre, Afrolicious, Kelly Park Big Band and My Blue Soul.
Gringa is a 5-piece band (drums, bass, percussion, guitar/cavaco, sax, vocals) that blends Brazilian and Latin rhythms/instruments with elements of pop, jazz, funk, dub, and hip hop. Gringa plays mostly originals, with both English and Portuguese lyrics, and utilize various rhythms like samba, xóte, baião, son, and reggaeton. By weaving Brazilian and Cuban rhythms through nomadic love songs and millennial musings, Gringa aspires to forge new musical sounds and dissolve cultural barriers while uplifting the listener.
Kate's duo with Diogo Sabre in Brazilian music explores the realm of bossa nova, music from the Northeast of Brazil (forro, xóte, baião, frevo) and MPB (música popular brasileiro). Diogo is an incredibly gifted guitarist and singer with a keen sense of timing, sensibility and groove, and Kate rounds out the sound with sax, flute, voice and occasional percussion.
Afrolicious is a perennial Bay Area favorite, recently playing the Greek Theater in Berkeley, Bottlerock in 2015, and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado in 2012. Kate adds a sultry feminine touch to this grooving outfit that has toured across California, Nevada, New York and Colorado.
Kate also plays in My Blue Soul, a nine-piece blues, R&B, and soul revue. MBS is recording an album of originals due out in late 2016! Kate has played with other bands including Afrofunk Experience, Audiobraille, JazzSchool Big Band, Howlin’ Houndog, Better than Lahar, Don Bennett’s big band, Manhattan Towers, Calatayud Brothers, Laucia Paiva and Joel Nelson Band. Kate was the featured performer in 2004 at Rothman’s Jazzmatazz in Dhaka and Chittagong, Bangladesh.
